The only cities that even care about baseball at this point are L.A, Phili, and New York. Major League Baseball needs to do something and fast if they are going to recover. You are losing ticket sales every day in smaller market teams because they can't afford to compete. Fans come to the ball park to see teams win. Winning 99% of the time comes for talented players who are bought year in and year out by the Yankees, Red Sox, Angles, and Dogers (all playoff teams). If the Royals, Pirates, Padres, and Nationals are every going to compete they need a level playing field.
2.) Shorten the 162 Game Season
It is impossible to be interested in baseball from April to November. Americans become more and more ADD by the day. It is hard to keep our attention for 30 minutes let alone 8 months.
3.) Don't Compete With Football
Baseball lost all interest as soon as we started getting excited about the NFL or collage football starting up. The solution has the be the World Series ends before fantasy football drafts start. MLB loses a huge market share once the middle of August hits. *There was a poll in Minnesota that showed a Viking victory over Green Bay was more important than the Twins beating the Tigers to get into the playoffs.
4.) Make the World Series a international event. The reason most people watch the little league world series is to root for the US team against the international team (Japan, Mexico, Dominican Republic) . This would be no different if you pined the MLB champion against the Japanese League champion, Korean champion, South American champion etc.
