Six Major Conferences? Try two.

The SEC and PAC 10 have separated themselves from the rest of the pack in college football this season. Most considered this a "down" year for the SEC, outside of Alabama and Florida. The crazy thing is that they were "down" and STILL the best conference. The PAC 10 had a very nice year as well, but c'mon, they still don't play any Defense. They are hands down the second best conference. Let's look at the other "Major Conferences"

Big 10 - Ohio State wins again, surprise. Iowa went into the Shoe without a terrible backup QB and took the Buckeyes to overtime in the defacto Big 10 title game. Michigan and Illinois were major flops and Penn State didn't win a big game all year. Just a slow, boring conference that declined even further this year.

ACC - Clemson and Georgia Tech were the top two teams in the conference this year, but middle of the road SEC teams took them down in the final week of the regular season this year. Georgia Tech will play Iowa in a BCS bowl... what!?!?!? V Tech was a disappointment. FSU and Miami played that great game early in the season and everyone thought both were "back" but really they were just average teams that made each other look good. Everyone keeps on waiting for this conference to arrive and at this point the question is, will it ever?

Big 12 - Losing Bradford really prevented the Big 12 from having two Top 10 teams, but injuries are a part of the game. After winning @Oklahoma State (who was also a flop), was at least a 3 TD favorite in their next four games and then a 14 point favorite against Nebraska, who was very average as well. The Big 12 North only put two teams over .500 on the year, just awful. As big a step the Big 12 made last year forward, they made an even further step back this year.

Big East - Cincinnati is pretty legit. After that this may be the worst of them all, which is saying a lot. Pittsburgh is supposed to be the second best team, but lost to NC State out of conference (who is bad beyond words). WVU, Rutgers and UCONN are all below average teams. Louisville and Syracuse have arguments for the worst teams in BCS conferences. With only eight teams, it is a joke to give this conference champion an automatic BCS bid.
